I contacted Coastal Home Services for a drain clog. I mentioned that I read online about their “$99” drain clean special and they said they would apply that offer. The advertisement goes further and mentions they use a camera to identify the clog:
“Drain clearing services entail a certified plumber come out to your home and clear the clog. Generally speaking, they will utilize a camera inspection to see what and where the clog is, and then use a number of different techniques to remove the clog…”
The technician arrived at my house and said the $99 drain special only includes using a 10ft snake. If they can’t clear the clog, then the price goes up to $419 for additional work! He also confirmed that they don’t even use a camera for drain cleaning.
I declined work and found another plumber to help me with my clog. I told the technician that this was a waste of my time, and of his time, and that his company is engaging in deceptive advertising. It wasn’t his fault as Coastal is owned by a very large HVAC corporate consolidator. There is no way to contact the local office as all phones go to a call center in Greenville.
I hope this “local” company changes their business practices! One star for the deception and false advertising and an extra star that the technician was nice enough to let me know before the services had been performed.
