Ways to Reduce Home Humidity

Living on the Crystal Coast has its perks, but the rising temperatures can bring a rise in humidity – both outdoors and in our homes. High humidity in
our homes can be easily recognizable, but can also not be so easy to spot at times. Below are a few things that can boost unwelcome in-home humidity:

  • Poor bathroom ventilation
  • Too many plants throughout the home
  • Leaks in the roof and basement areas
  • A dirty HVAC system

There are many factors that can contribute to high humidity, but locating the source is key to solving and reducing your problem. First, make sure you
have the proper amount of air circulating throughout your home – well circulated air will stay dryer than stagnant air. In the bathroom, be sure to
use ventilation fans regularly and your ceiling fans are running properly.

Secondly, reducing the number of plants in your home and closing off leaks in your basement/attic areas can greatly reduce the amount of humidity in the
home. It may seem like small sources of moisture, but are valuable steps to take when looking to reduce overall humidity.

Lastly, call an HVAC technician. We will be able to test the humidity levels and determine if anything in your HVAC system is causing it. Dehumidifiers
can also be installed to promote good air quality while remaining discreet and out of the way. Coastal Home Services is a reliable and experienced
company that can make sure your system is up and running correctly and efficiently. Have questions or want to get started? Give us a call at 252-842-0094!
